Wheel Alignment

Service

Wheel Alignment

Wheel alignment, or tire alignment, is a service that fine-tunes your vehicle’s suspension to guarantee proper orientation of all tires in relation to each other and the road. Essentially, it assures uniform direction for all tires and optimal road contact, enhancing tire longevity by preventing uneven wear.

The wheel alignment procedure entails measuring and restoring the original settings of three angles in your vehicle’s suspension:
  1. The Camber angle: The vertical inclination of the tire’s side with respect to the vehicle’s side, observed from the front or rear of the vehicle.
  2. The Caster angle: The inclination of the steering axis concerning an imaginary vertical straight line when viewed from the vehicle’s side.
  3. The Toe angle: The sideway inclination of the tire’s side concerning the vehicle’s center, observed from an overhead perspective.

Wheel alignment requires precise measurements conducted on an alignment machine; a task performed by skilled mechanics using high-precision equipment. At NCA, you can trust in our commitment to accuracy and expertise.

When your vehicle requires wheel alignment, you may observe the following symptoms in your steering wheel and tires:

  • Rolling to the right or left: Even when your steering wheel is centered on a level road.

  • Crooked steering wheel: Despite driving straight, your steering wheel appears misaligned.

  • Tire noise: Misaligned tires producing noise as they are pulled in a different direction than intended.

  • Uneven tire wear: Identification of distinct tread patterns such as diagonal wear, tire feathering, toe wear or camber wear. Alternatively, you may notice a disparity in tread wear between the front and rear tires.

Performing a wheel alignment typically requires approximately an hour as an independent task. If any damaged components need replacement during the process, additional time may be necessary. Please allocate extra time if you're considering other common tire and wheel services to be performed concurrently with the wheel alignment.

Car makers typically omit wheel alignment from the standard maintenance schedule. It is advised to undergo wheel alignment every one to two years. For optimal tread wear, we highly recommend aligning the wheels with any new tire purchase. Additionally, it's advisable to check alignment when rotating or balancing tires

Alignment adjustments for either two or all four wheels depend on your vehicle’s drivetrain and suspension type. Although modern wheel alignment is typically designed for all four wheels, it's essential to measure the rear wheel alignment angles. Whether adjustable or not, the rear wheel angles guide the alignment of the front wheels. Consult with your NCA technician to determine which wheels on your vehicle are adjustable.

Faulty tire alignment can result in vibrations when misaligned wheels point in different directions, causing strain and friction between them. This leads to a rougher ride and accelerated tread wear at stress points. Vibrations in the steering wheel at specific highway speeds may indicate the need for tire balancing.
